Cultivation of the Tamarillo or Tree Tomato (Solanum betaceum) in Benguet and Mountain Province

This is the tamarillo or tree tomatoe (Solanum betaceum). May mga nagcucultivate nito dito sa Cordillera region pero yung wild origins ng plant is in the Andean regions of South America. These were probably brought to the Philippines by the Spaniards.

These thrive very well here especially in Benguet and Mountain Province because of the higher elevations of these provinces.

What does it taste? It's like a combination of ripe tomatoes, guava, and passion fruit. So it's a mixture of sweet and sour. It comes with a bitter aftertaste though that stays in your tongue for a while.
