The "Tinali" of the Tinguian/Itneg of Abra

Tinguian women adorn their arms with tinali which appears like slaves made of strings of beads. The tinali are individual strings of small black, blue, green, white, yellow, and/or orange glass beads. Each string of beads is tied to the arm individually, from the wrist to the forearm, sometimes until the biceps if the wearer is wealthy (Maramba 1998, p. 234). The tinali not only serves aesthetic purposes but also signifies social prestige. (Abellera 1981; Maramba 1998)
