This is a news clipping from August 7, 1904. It's an article in the Pittsburg Post about a group of Igorots and Moros who visited the White House in Washington. Then American President Theodore Roosevelt welcomed them and had a short reception with them at his private office.
Among the group was an Igorot teenager named Antero Cabrera who served as interpreter because he understood and spoke English.
The visit in the White House was a huge story back then as evidenced by the widespread coverage by newspapers from all over the country. But the headlines also showed the colonial mentality that Westerners had then. The Igorots and Moros were often referred to as "savages", "little brown brothers", and "uncivilized".
