1 Killed, 8 Others Injured When A Truck Fell Off A Ravine In Lagawe, Ifugao

A man died while eight others were injured when the truck they were riding fell off a mountain side in barangay Poblacion South in Lagawe, Ifugao. The road accident which police investigators believe to be due to a mechanical error occurred last night (February 5).

According to a Bombo Radyo report, the dump truck was navigating through a curve in the road when the driver lost control of the truck's brakes. The vehicle then proceeded to slide down a ravine that's about 25 to 40 meters deep.

The lone fatality was identified as Ben Humiwat, a 56-year old resident of barangay Montabiong in Lagawe. The eight people who were injured including the driver were rushed to the Panupdupan District Hospital in the nearby town of Lamut.

Those injured were identified as Edwin Padilla Baltazar, Jay-ar Castillo Moya, Henry Cabreros Dangan, Kevin Lloyd Danglan Alvarez, Homer Mendoza Nehis, Rainier Dangan Dagdag, Leopoldo Ong, and Richard Cotillo Sobrepena, the driver of the vehicle. Sobrepena is reportedly incurred serious injuries.

This recent road accident in Lagawe is just one of several road mishaps that have occurred in the Cordillera region this year. Just last week, a truck also fell down a mountain side in the town of Bauko in Mt. Province which led to the death of one person.
