Fire Razes A Section Of The Bontoc Museum In Mountain Province

A fire broke out within the premises of the Bontoc Museum in Mt. Province last Saturday. According to witnesses, the fire broke out between 1:30 and 2:00 in the afternoon. The fire was contained a half hour later through the efforts of concerned citizens and the authorities.

Community residents, water delivery businesses, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Bontoc Municipal Police Station, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office all lent their resources in putting out the fire.

From a video taken by a resident, it looks like the fire happened not in one of the main buildings of the museum but in one of the huts built within the museum's premises. Several of the structures within the museum were built out of wood, cogon grass and other materials that can easily ignite when subjected to extreme heat.
