Baguio City Vice Mayor Daniel T. Farinas Has Died This Morning

Daniel T. Farinas, Vice Mayor of Baguio City has died early morning of today (May 4, 2014). Baguio City Congressman Nicasio Aliping Jr., in an update via his Facebook page, said that "The good Vice Mayor had a previous case of thrombosis. He was admitted yesterday for some internal bleeding. He passed away this morning." He was 61 years old.

Thrombosis is the "formation of a blood clot inside a blood vessel, obstructing the flow of blood through the circulatory system. When a blood vessel is injured, the body uses platelets (thrombocytes) and fibrin to form a blood clot to prevent blood loss. Even when a blood vessel is not injured, blood clots may form in the body under certain conditions. A clot that breaks free and begins to travel around the body is known as an embolus." [Wikipedia]

Aside from being the Vice Mayor and Presiding Officer of the City Council, Farinas is also chairperson of the Committee on Ways and Means and Finance and the Special Committee on Barangay Administrative Cases - Division 3. [Official website of the Sangguniang Panlungsod]

As a public official, Farinas' most recent accomplishment was helping forge sisterhood ties between Baguio City and the town of Bani in Pangasinan. [Sun Star Baguio]
