Gravity is back. ONE Championship announced on Monday (March 23) that Geje "Gravity" Eustaquio will be part of the organization's Valor of Champions event in Manila next month. The Team Lakay standout will lock horns with Anatpong Bunrad of Thailand.
Eustaquio, whose record currently stands at six wins and three losses, is coming of a submission loss to Adriano Moraes in September of last year. In the Moraes fight, Eustaquio attempted to wrest the ONE Championship flyweight belt from the Brazilian. He was holding his own against the champion until he got choked out of the fight in the second stanza.
In his upcoming tussle with Bunrad, Eustaquio needs to take home the bacon if he wants to get another shot at Moraes for the title. Bunrad may be less experienced than Eustaquio but his record shows that he's got more than decent power in his hands and feet. Of the four wins under his belt, three came via knockouts. Bunrad is also the bigger and will likely be the stronger fighter given the fact that he has competed at bantamweight which is a division higher than where Eustaquio competes.
ONE Championship: Valor of Champions will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on April 24. The main event will be a battle among welterweights as Ben Askren defends his belt against Luis Santos. The full fight card hasn't been announced yet so there's a good chance that other Team Lakay fighters will be added to it.
In related news, two other Team Lakay mixed martial arts fighters will be competing in another event by a different organization. The venue will also be at the Mall of Asia Arena. Mark Eddiva and Roldan Sangcha-an will be facing their respective opponents on May 16 when the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) stages its very first event in the Philippines. The event will be headlined by a superfight between Uriah Faber and Frankie Edgar.
