Mayor Edna Tabanda Asks For Ordinance To Curb Rise Of Lollipop Girls In La Trinidad

Amidst reports that the numbers of lollipop girls roaming the streets of La Trinidad are increasing, the town's mayor has directly asked the municipal council to come up with either an ordinance or a resolution that will address the issue. In an article for Tempo by Zaldy Comanda, the mayor is reportedly egging the council to pass an ordinance that will require workers in bars and restaurants to avail of working and health permits before they are allowed to work within the town.

According to the same article, some girls who work in bars and restaurants during the day can be seen roaming the streets as prostitutes at night holding lollipops. A girl with a lollipop is supposedly a sign that the girl is offering intimate services.

The town of Buguias is also struggling with the same problem especially in barangay Abatan. Some bars there reportedly offer extra services from kandong girls, also refered to as saklot girls. It can be recalled that several months ago, 17 women were rescued from at least two bars in Abatan. Ten of these girls were minors.
