Paper Debunks Myths About the Ifugao Bulul

I finally got around to reading this article by Armand Nicod-am Camhol which was just recently published in Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Studies, an academic journal published by the Ateneo de Manila University.

This article is a very important addition to the existing literature about the Ifugao bulul for three (3) reasons:

1. Camhol is from Ifugao. This needs to be highlighted. More and more Ifugao academics are researching and writing papers and books about their history and culture. That's a good thing.
2. There's very little academic articles out there about the bulul. Camhol's piece is among the most comprehensive articles about the bulul that I've come across.
3. Camhol's article boldly challenges the current scholarship about the bulul. What we know or what we think we know about the bulul needs serious revision in light of Camhol's findings and arguments.

I'll be referencing and writing about the contents of the article in future posts. There's so much to learn from it.

Those who want to read the article, you can purchase the journal published by Ateneo. I believe they have copies on their Lazada and Shopee stores. For more information, check the Facebook page for the journal that published it - Philippine Studies: Historical & Ethnographic Viewpoints.
